Description: Hendrik Goltzius (1558-1617) . Very Rare self-portrait print, frame with 99% UV glass. Hendrik was a Dutch printmaker, draftsman, and painter. He was the leading Dutch engraver of the early Baroque period. According to A. Hyatt Mayor, Goltzius "was the last professional engraver who drew with the authority of a good painter. Goltzius was born near Venlo in Bracht or Millebrecht, a village then in the Duchy of Julich, now in the municipality Brüggen in North Rhine-Westphalia. In 1590 to make a tour through Germany to Italy, where he acquired an intense admiration for the works of Michelangelo. He returned to Haarlem in August 1591, considerably improved in health, and worked there until his death.

Some of his work portray humble farming people at work and have an earthy quality reminiscent of some of the French nineteenth century genre artists. Creating in Oil, Watercolour and Engravings. Born in 1872, in West Derby, Liverpool, Lancashire. He studied at the School of Art under John Finnie, he later studied at the Academie Julian in Paris under Bouguereau and Gabriel Ferrier. he did exhibit four oil paintings at the Royal Academy, between 1898-1903, with titles such as ‘The Gentle Art’ and ‘Springtime’. He exhibited extensively as well at The Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, The Royal Academy, Royal Cambrian Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, Haworth Art Gallery, Acrington Art Gallery and Newport Art Gallery. He lived and worked in Liverpool. By 1928 he had moved to West Sussex, near Arundel, where he died in 1930.

Rose produced a series of lithographs at the commercial lithography studio of Señor Sales in Barcelona, and the couple travelled in Europe. After their return in 1965, Rose taught printmaking part-time at the National Art School, East Sydney, and continued to produce screen prints in his home studio. In 1978, Rose was commissioned to produce a range of designs for Australian postage stamps.
